Obituary for Iven "Doyle" Sapp

Iven “Doyle” Sapp was born October 20, 1936, in Shelbyville, Texas to Ivan Ancel & Mary Ellen (Green) Sapp. He was affectionately to most as “Doyle.” Doyle served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Korean Conflict and worked as a boilermaker/operator in the oil industry. At one time, he had owned his own general contracting company.

Doyle greatly enjoyed the outdoors. This included the sports of hunting and especially, fishing. He was a founding father of the Port Arthur Bass Club and had his own radio show about fishing for nearly four years. When Doyle moved to Leon County around 1990, he was able to enjoy outdoor activities even more on his very own land, which he was immensely proud of owning.

Doyle had lived in Leon County for the past twenty-eight years and was a member of the Keechi Baptist Church. He passed away May 13, 2018 in Palestine, Texas at the age of eighty-one years. Doyle was preceded in death by both of his parents and brothers, David & Wynel Sapp.

Surviving family members include loving wife, Louann Sapp of Oakwood; son, Eric Sapp of Round Rock; daughters, Patti Love of Baton Rouge, LA, Leslie Sapp Gontarek of Pflugerville, B.J. Gardner (Todd) of Livingston; Lita Wallace (Mark) of Dickinson, Rita Luker of Kilgore and Brenda Smith of Kilgore and sister, Pam Green of Marble Falls. Doyle is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.

Funeral services for Doyle are scheduled for 10 A.M., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas. Bro. Lee Weiler will officiate the service, and interment will follow in the Keechi Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, May 18th from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Walters’ Buffalo Funeral Home in Buffalo, Texas.
