Ursal Dendy "U.D." Douglas, 87, of Bedias, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 11, 2023. He was born in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi on April 16, 1935, the son of Thurman Douglas and Ollie Etoile (Dendy) Douglas.


U.D. was preceded in death by both of his parents; sisters, Katherine Trimble and Juanita Crawford; daughter, Karen Lynn Douglas; granddaughter, Lisa Camille Land; wife, Zana Elizabeth Douglas; and former wife, Barbara Ann Douglas.


He is survived by sons, Steven Ward Douglas of Avinger, Texas, Thurman Kyle Douglas & wife, Terri of Somerville, Texas and Dwayne Connally Strivens of Santa Ana, California; daughters, Sandra Denise (Douglas) Alston & husband, Daryl of Centerville, Texas, Doris Collette Strivens of Bedias, Texas, and Danon Camille (Strivens) Hollinger & husband, Larry of Magnolia, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.


U.D. retired after working twenty-five years for Brown and Root and started his own company with a good friend they named Equi-Sales Associates. He was involved in building hydroelectric plants worldwide. Once U.D. retired again, he started his venture with the Douglas Hay Farm in Bedias, Texas where one would always find him on a tractor.


U.D. loved his family, and he was an avid Houston Astros fan. If he couldn't attend the game at the ballpark, he was watching it at home.


The Douglas family would like to thank the caring staff at St. Joseph Hospital CCU, especially nurses, Tacie, Riley, Jimmy, Paige & Rikki.


U.D. will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.


A funeral service for U.D. will be held 11:30 A.M., Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Bro. Nathan Hoke will officiate the service. A brief visitation will take place from 10:30 A.M. to service time at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to a local food pantry or food bank. U.D. always said, "We have too many going hungry, and we need to feed everyone."


Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
