Paula Marlene Chicken, 87, passed away in Bryan, Texas on November 28, 2025. Paula was born on January 26, 1938, in Maroa, Illinois, to Enos and Hazel Pennypacker and grew up in Decatur, Illinois.
Paula is survived by her husband, Daniel Dean Chicken Jr.; sons, Douglas Dean Chicken and Daryl Scott Chicken (Adriana); granddaughters, Jeanina Krahl (Keith), Daniala Camp (Marcus), Alexandria Nicole "Ally" Chicken and Hannah Faith Chicken; grandsons, David Anthony Finnegan and Nicolas Cole Smith; and great-grandchildren, Amelia, Aiden and Kosta.
Paula received a degree in Education and married Daniel in 1960. The two would have celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary a few weeks after her passing.
Her greatest love was spending time with her family. She loved playing board and card games with family and friends. She enjoyed playing golf and participated in the ladies Hilltop Lakes golf group, as well as bunco and bridge with the local ladies groups. She liked to jokingly brag that her name was often mentioned in the local paper... even if it was actually mentioned for taking last place. Above all else, we will miss her sense of humor and smiles. Her favorite catch phrase was "What do you know?," as she always showed an interest in what we had to say and provided her wavering support.
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Paula at 12 Noon, Friday, December 19, 2025, at the First Methodist Church of Normangee. Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas -- A Walters Family Funeral Home.
