Louise Skains

Louise Skains was born on March 25, 1917 in Normangee, Texas to Ernest Milton & Annie T. (Morris) Childress. She grew up in Normangee and was a graduate of Normangee High School. Louise lived in Freeport, Texas where she worked and retired from Dow Chemical Company as a telephone operator. Before that, she had worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. Louise lived in Freeport for approximately forty years and was married to Tom Jones, until his passing in 1975.

Louise moved back to Madison County after her marriage to Allen Skains in the late 1970s. Soon after, her sister and husband moved to Madisonville. Louise and Allen were both faithful members of First Baptist Church in Madisonville for more than forty years. Louise regularly attended church services and was always willing to lend a helping hand in church activities. Louise was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star #193 in Madisonville and a past Worthy Matron. In her younger days, she had enjoyed sewing and always loved a good game of 42.

Following her husband Allens passing, Louise moved to Huntsville at the Lexington Center, an assisted living facility, where she remained active until just one week before her departure from this life. Louise loved to read the bible and had read it from cover to cover numerous times. She would often sit with the staff from the assisted living facility when they would read the bible together in hope that it would strengthen their own walk with God and bring them closer to Him.

Louise passed away on July 24, 2017 in Bryan, Texas at 100 years of age. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husbands, Tom P. Jones & Allen Skains; siblings, Lavada Bruce, Inez Menefee, Sam Childress & Preston Childress and grandson, Bill Jones. Surviving family members include son & daughter-in-law, Dickie & Linda Jones of Caldwell; step-sons, Curtis Skains of Huntsville & Billy Skains of Houston; sister, Pauline DeBerry of Conroe; grandchildren, Rhonda Shed, Regina Aaron, Richard Jones & Joe Geer and grandsons from late husband, Allen Skains: Kevin, Joe Bryan, Justin, Billy Joe Jr. and Charlie.
