John Curtis Stewart, 78, of North Zulch, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. He was born on October 18, 1947, in Navasota, Texas, to John Calvin Stewart and Mavis Derlene (Flynt) Stewart. John grew up in the Carlos and Iola, Texas, communities, where he learned the value of hard work, family, and perseverance.

John proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he built a career in construction before finding his true calling behind the wheel of an eighteen-wheeler. He spent more than fifty years driving big trucks, including more than thirty-five years with KD Timmons Inc., hauling gas and diesel.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Catherine Louise (Stewart) Doty; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin “Beans” Morris and Ella Rae Morris; and his grandson, Colton Morris.

John is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Vada Stewart; his son, James Stewart; his daughter, Suzy Stewart (Mike Owens); his son, John “Johnny” Stewart II (Margaret); and his stepson, Larry Morris. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Cade Stewart, Trista Stewart, Marissa Stewart, John “Tres” Stewart III, Emily Laughlin, Clowey Morris, and Ashlyn Morris; his aunt, Linda Lawson; his sisters-in-law, Malinda Oliver, Kayla Glover, and Gayla Morrison (Robert); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service celebrating John’s life, officiated by pastor Joshua Price, will be held in the chapel of the Madisonville Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 10 A.M.

Final arrangements for John Curtis Stewart are under the compassionate care and direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
