Jimmy Glynn Farris, 90 years old, of Midway, Texas, joined our Lord in Heaven on February 8, 2026. Jimmy was born to Jesse Cavanaugh Farris and Thelma Irene Hall of the Connor Community in Madison County on January 13, 1936. He graduated from Madisonville High School in 1953 and married his wife of 70 years, Carolyn Jean Forrest, on August 27, 1955.
Soon after they got married, he went to work on Forrest Ranch for Carolyn’s dad, Mr. William Forrest. From the moment he stepped on the property, he became a cowboy through and through. You could find him at any given moment baling hay, picking pecans, or simply ranching with his two favorite things: horses and cattle.
While he loved all manner of horses, he definitely had a favorite kind: cutting horses. In the early 1970’s, he stepped foot on a cutting horse for the very first time and was immediately hooked. It sparked a new passion, one outside the typical day-to-day work of an honest rancher. He threw himself into the equine world, even receiving an award from the American Quarter Horse Association for his efforts in raising Quarter Horses for over fifty years.
Eventually, the entire family was enraptured by this new lifestyle, often spending their weekends hauling up and down the road to any cutting they could find. Although he thoroughly enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren succeed, he was always quite the competitor himself, winning his last championship saddle in 2018 at the age of 82.
Although Jimmy was successful in the show pen and cattle chutes, he will be remembered best by the way he treated all those around him. All who knew him say he was the first to lend a helping hand to those trying to get back on their feet when they were down on their luck. He was a prime example of what it was to be a gentleman, always ensuring that those around him felt comfortable, appreciated, and cared for. He was kind to everybody he met, but he truly never met a stranger.
The minute that Jimmy shook a new hand, they were family. All of his family, blood or not, will remember the goofy grin that sparkled when he was teasing those he loved, the perseverance he faced every challenge with, and the love that he showed to others each and every day. Jimmy was truly a one-of-a-kind man, and the Farris family will certainly feel much smaller without him.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Cavanaugh and Thelma Farris; brother, Donald Gene Farris; sons, Jimmy Glynn Farris Jr. and Mike Farris; and grandson, Kyle Mitchell Farris.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn Farris; sister, Betty Jo Stevens; son, Mitch Farris; grandchildren, Reygan Farris Richardson (Wess), Faith Farris, and Riley Farris; great-grandson, Tristan Richardson; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
A funeral service honoring Jimmy, officiated by Ben Stevens and Joel Douget, will be held in the chapel at the Madisonville Funeral Home on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10 A.M. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday evening, February 12, 2026, from 5-7 P.M. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery followed by lunch at the Midway Church of Christ.
Pallbearers will be Paul Redfearn, Tommy Starns, Lee Holsey, Rob Tieperman, Jon Stevens and Juan Mejia. Honorary Pallbearer is John Hardy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Farris Memorial Scholarship Fund. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 309, Madisonville, Texas 77864.
Final arrangements for Jimmy Glynn Farris are under the compassionate care and direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville Texas.
