Obituary

James Elvin Cook was born December 20, 1944, in Crockett, Texas and passed away March 18, 2018, in Bryan, Texas at the age of seventy-three years.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Thursday, March 22, 2018, at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas. Rev. Otis Byers and Rev. Dennis Ivey will officiate the service, and interment will follow in the Midway Cemetery in Midway, Texas. A visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21st from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers: Kole Savage, Chance Savage, Tanner Cook, Colt Cook, Lane Cook, Baylon Cook and Zack Cook

Honorary pallbearers: Wes Savage, Steve Parrish, Larry Little, Cleveland Turner and Bill Forrest, Jr.

James' parents were Gail & Leda Mae (Keels) Cook. Known by most as "Jimmy," he spent the majority of his career (twenty-three years and three months) working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in the Ferguson Unit in Midway. After his retirement from T.D.C.J., in 1994, Jimmy worked for the Corrections Corporation of America in the Winnfield Unit as an Assistant Warden. He completed his forty-three year career working in the I.N.S. Processing Center in Houston.

Jimmy enjoyed ranching, gardening, coon hunting and fishing and was always active and involved with the Madison County Fair Association. He lived most of his life in Midway and was a member of the Church of Christ in Midway.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Frances Cook of Midway; sons, Gaylon Cook of Huntsville and Brandon Cook (Tracy) of Midway; daughter, Rhonda Savage (Wes) of Midway; brother, Charles Allen Cook of Porter Springs and sisters, Dianne Rhone of Crockett and Virginia Lewis of Crockett. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kole Savage, Chance Savage, Lane Cook, Madison Cook, Macie Cook, Baylon Cook, Zack Cook, Magen Hamrick, Kacie Cook, Tanner Cook, Colt Cook, Tye Coleman, Christian Coleman and Cannon Coleman.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas.
