Iron "Doc" Holiday

December 9, 1938 — August 11, 2023

Iron "Doc" Holiday

On December 9, 1938, in Grimes County, a joyful bouncing baby boy, the tenth child of fourteen was born to Omie and Lois Holiday by the name of Iron "Doc" Holiday. Iron accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Rev. W.H.T. Gillespie at Little Rock Baptist Church.

Iron attended school in Midway, Texas at A.V. Lee High School where he played basketball, baseball, and ran track. He graduated from A.V. Lee High School in 1958. While attending high school he met the love of his life at a basketball game by the name of Lee Anna Brown. On October 22, 1960, Iron and Lee Anna Holiday were united in holy matrimony and to this union two children were born, Jacqueline and Christopher.

Iron worked diligently at Wakefield and Sons, which was later owned by many others until he retired after over forty years of employment. Iron "Doc" Holiday was well known in the community through mowing yards, barbecuing, cracking jokes, and being friendly to everyone. He never met a stranger with his wide smile and unique laugh. He enjoyed watching people indulge in his good cooking, spending time with family and talking on the phone with his sister, Ellen, on a daily basis.

On Friday, August 11, 2023, Iron "Doc" Holiday transitioned from labor to reward as he left this world of pain and sorrow in order to receive his reward.

Iron was preceded in death by his parents, Omie and Lois Holiday and his siblings, Tommy, Nita, Rev. O.L., John, Elmer (Bud), Edgar, Otha, Rev. Martin, Rev. Fred, Major, Mattie, and Dorthula.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of sixty-two years, Lee Anna Holiday; daughter, Jackie (Bryan) Williamson of Round Rock, TX; son, Chris of Madisonville, TX; granddaughter that he raised like a daughter, Josalyn Holiday of Houston, TX; granddaughters, Christina (Broderick) Byrd, Tiffany Williamson, and Taylor (Jaroid) Williamson; great-grandchildren; Tre'Jure, Bra'Najah, Dyani, and Kyrie; sister, Ellen Marie Nellums of LaMarque, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and coffee buddies.
