Floyd "Gold Hair" Bennett

Emblem

September 15, 1945, was a day of triumph for Hedy Mary (Rocker) Johnson and Lonnie Charles Bennett as they welcomed a healthy young man into the world, whom they named Floyd "Gold Hair" Bennett, a shining star destined for greatness.

As Floyd grew into a resilient, God-fearing, and disciplined man, he was drawn to joining the Army, where he courageously served his country, earning numerous medals of decoration, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, 1960. Upon returning from his noble service, Floyd joined a new army at Johnson Memorial Church, where he laid down his gun and took up a new fight, one of faith and devotion.

He continued to build his legacy by finding a helpmate in Dorothy Sue Bennett, and together they raised twelve remarkable children, Ricky Bennett (Shirra), Roddy Bennett (Bertha), Randy Bennett (Vernita), Angela Manning, Chandra Fuller, Dickie Jackson, Donovan Gilbert (Mary), James Simmons (Kim), Sirnita Bennett, Tiffany Bennett, and Jonathan Turner. This union was blessed with twenty-nine grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, a testament to Floyd's enduring impact.

As his chapter came to a close on June 4th, he was preceded in death by Lonnie Bennett, Mary Johnson, and Gaibelle Simmons but his memory, wisdom, and laughter will continue to inspire generations to come.
