Colvin Nathaniel Walker was born in Madisonville, Texas on December 20,1937, to Eli and Agnes (Tucker) Walker. He passed away on May 15, 2026, at the age of 88 years old.
Colvin was a lifetime resident of Madison County. He graduated from Madisonville High School in 1955 and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University.
As a small child, Colvin attended First Baptist Church of Madisonville and at an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized. He was a lifelong member of the church where he was a long-serving deacon, and Sunday School teacher. He believed God blessed him and his family and that all things are possible through hard work, prayer and God’s grace. He truly had a servant’s heart and genuine love for people.
In his early years he gained valuable experience working on the family farm, raising crops and livestock. With the importance of agriculture being instilled in him, he began his teaching career in agriculture science beginning in 1959 at Marlin High School. From there, he returned home to Madison County and taught ag classes in Madisonville and North Zulch schools. His involvement in agriculture subsequently took him to Texas A & M University where he was an associate professor and vocational agricultural curriculum developer. Colvin missed the student interaction and returned to teaching at MCISD and later became the administrative assistant superintendent. After retiring from teaching, he worked at the Region VI Education Service Center. In all, Colvin reached a milestone of fifty-seven years of service in the education field. From 1980 to 1990, while teaching ag, he also was the Justice of Peace in Madison County.
As a strong supporter of his community, Colvin helped form and served on the board of the Madison County Fair Association. He also served on the board of the Ten Mile Cemetery and the Madison County Historical Commission.
Some of his proudest moments occurred as he got to assist his children and grandchildren with their horse and livestock projects, FFA record books and contests. He loved going to any event where family was involved and being a supportive PawPaw or Paw as he was lovingly called.
Colvin was preceded in death by his parents, Eli and Agnes Walker, and sister, Elizabeth Wilcox.
He leaves behind Sandra, his loving wife of 62 years; daughters Donna Farris (Billie), Kelly Enloe (Mark); grandchildren, Jarrod Reese (Jessica) of Louisville, Kentucky, Justin Reese (Elena) of Normangee, Texas, and Darby Enloe of Normangee, Texas; great-grandchildren Kinsey, Grady, and Beau of Normangee Texas, and Evangeline, Elias, Winifred and Colvin of Louisville, Kentucky; special niece, Kim Groves (Loren) of Wyoming along with numerous other extended family and loving friends who will miss him greatly.
A funeral service, officiated by pastor Charles Higgs, will take place at the First Baptist Church of Madisonville, Texas on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11 A.M. followed by burial in the Ten Mile Cemetery in Normangee, Texas. Visitation will be held one hour before the service beginning at 10 A.M.
