Charles Fred “Fred,” “Freddy,” “Fast Freddy” Hinds, age 84, passed away on August 3, 2025, in Bedias, Texas. Born on October 18, 1940, in Houston, Texas, Fred lived a life marked by adventure, achievement, and an unwavering spirit that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Fred attended Sam Houston University where he majored in business, laying the foundation for a dynamic and successful career. He rose to national prominence as the Number One Corporate Salesman for Atlas Van Lines Moving and Storage for many consecutive years—a testament to his drive and charisma. His professional accomplishments extended beyond sales; he was also certified as both an insurance agent and a real estate agent in the state of Texas.

A man of many talents and passions, Fred’s adventurous nature took him far beyond the business world. He was selected for the U.S. Army boxing team while serving in Germany with the renowned "Hell on Wheels" unit. His military service was a point of pride and a defining chapter in his life.

Among his many unique achievements was winning a trophy for catching the largest fish during a tournament held in communist-occupied Cuba—an experience that only added to his legendary status among friends and family. Fred’s love for the outdoors was boundless. He found joy in fishing, hunting, golfing, skinning, scuba diving, and driving—always seeking out new thrills and experiences. Wherever Fred went, there was sure to be a party, an adventure, or even a fight. He never met a stranger without planning a fishing or hunting trip soon after or giving them a benevolent gift.

His deep faith guided him throughout his life. Fred often spoke of the miracles God had given him and used those experiences to comfort others. He was known as a powerful witness to God's redemption and made it his mission to uplift those who were hurting.

Fred was also deeply committed to his community through his involvement with the Masons—holding membership in both Bedias and Richards lodges—and as a Shriner in Houston. These brotherhoods were dear to him and provided lifelong friendships that he cherished.

Fred was preceded in death by his mother Annabel Sholars; father, Fred Harrison Hensley Sr.; stepfather, Charles Hinds; and brothers, Skipper Hinds and Terry Hinds.

He is survived by his devoted wife Gena Hinds; daughters, Sharon Balli (Phil) and Shalen,; granddaughters, Riana Balli and Alexa Balli; great-grandson Ezra; nephews, Clint Hinds (Bre), along with their children, Logan, Landon and Lincoln; Scott Hinds (Kristen), along with their children, Fisher, Becket, Bishop and Finn; cousins, Nick Sholars and Quentin Hinds (Stacey), along with their sons, Cody and Josh; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Hinds and Janice Foster (Butch); as well as many beloved Mason and Shriner brothers who stood beside Fred throughout life’s journey.

In accordance with his wishes—and true to his love of nature—Fred will be laid to rest near the fishing pond on his ranch. He often said he would spend eternity fishing there while watching over his cattle and hay field, a fitting tribute to a man whose heart belonged to the land.

May Charles Fred Hinds’ memory bring comfort to those who knew him. His legacy of strength, pranks, laughter, faith, and fearless living will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his remarkable journey.
