Lifelong resident of Madisonville, Cecil Ellis Parten, passed away after 92 years of blessed service to his country, his community, his family and friends. Cecil was born at the family’s home in Madisonville on July 9, 1932, to proud parents Ellis and Sadie Parten and made his entrance into glory on July 8, 2025.
Cecil was one of a kind. He had a servant’s heart and a huge love for the Madisonville community where he resided all his life with the exception of his honorable service in the United States Army and his successful thirty-year career with Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas where he exhibited commitment and a strong work ethic.
Cecil was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Madisonville where he served the Lord and grew in his faith over the years. He had a gentle demeanor and lived a life of simplicity. Counting cows was a big event for Cecil every morning and sitting on the porch was one of his favorite places to be. He was a fan of old westerns when they came on the television and, as a staunch democrat, believed that CNN was the only true news source. Cecil loved and adored his family and had a wonderful relationship with his brother, Mayor Bill Parten. He looked forward to their 3 P.M. coffee at the house every day, come rain or shine.
Cecil is preceded in death by both of his parents, wife Patricia of more than fifty years and son-in-law Doug Sanford.
Those left to cherish his memory and reflect on Cecil’s life are his daughter, Carrie Sanford; brother, Mayor Bill Parten; granddaughter, Emily Swonke (Austin); one great-grandchild “on the way;” and numerous other extended family and loving friends.
A funeral service honoring Cecil’s life of service, officiated by Matt Carey, will be held at 10 A.M., in the chapel of the Madisonville Funeral Home on Friday, July 11, 2025. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Thursday evening, July 10, 2025, from 5 P.M. unitl 7 P.M.
Final arrangements for Cecil Ellis Parten are under the compassionate care and direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
