Betty Bush, a Normangee native and a retired longtime employee of the VA Hospital in Waco, died July 5, 2022, after a brief illness. She was 83.

Betty Jane (Musgrove) was born on August 30,1938, and grew up in Normangee. She graduated from Normangee High School, where she was a standout basketball player and outstanding student. She moved to Waco, then Big Spring and Tyler, before returning to Waco and beginning her over 20-year career at the VA Hospital.

She was a fan of women's basketball and true-crime stories and loved her cats. In her later years, she was a resident of Lake Shore Village Healthcare Center in Waco.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James A. Musgrove and Bessie Cole Chambless, and a sister, Mary Margaret Musgrove James.

She is survived by a sister, Georgia Chambless of Conroe; three children, Darrell Goolsbee of Fort Worth, David Goolsbee of Reno, Nevada, and Cindy Mercer of Waco; four grandchildren, Travis Goolsbee and Robert Goolsbee of Reno, Christopher Goolsbee of San Jose, California, and Stephanie Bush of Waco; three nieces and nephews, Dora Compis of Conroe, Ronald Bailey of Bryan and Laura Ramsdale of Bryan; and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, August 6, 2022, in the fellowship hall of Union Baptist Church in the Ten Mile community. Burial will follow at Ten Mile Cemetery in Normangee, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
