Obituary

Arette Cardilia (Jones) Johnson passed away on March 18, 2026, with her loving husband by her side. She was born on May 18, 1958, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Cornelius Jones Sr. and Celeta Word Jones. At an early age, Arette accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church of Omaha, Nebraska under the leadership of the late Pastor John L. Whittington, and later joined the Free Pentecostal House of Prayer.

As a child, she was an active member of the Jack and Jill Club of Omaha, Nebraska, played piano per her mother's encouragement and was an avid scrabble player. Arette was a graduate of Madisonville High School, Class of 1976, and attended Espinola Beauty College in Houston, Texas. Arette lived in Houston, Texas for several years before moving to Madisonville, Texas, where she worked at St. Joseph Hospital for many years.

Arette married Charles Johnson on July 7, 2001, in Madisonville, Texas with the union being performed by Reverend Samuel L. Thompson. Though she had no children of her own, she was a second mother to a host of special children, nieces, nephews and neighbors. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Charles Johnson; son, Sterling Shaffer of Madisonville, Texas; special sons, Marcus Barton of Houston, Texas, Caderius Simpson of Bryan, Texas; special daughters, Celeta Gilbert of Huntsville, Texas, Zanavia Manning-Lewis of College Station, Texas, Sharon Porter of Bryan, Texas, Melissa (Brandon) White of Madisonville, Texas, Jennifer Jones of Huntsville, Texas, Akesia Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jaida Craig of Madisonville, Texas; brother, Tyrone (Michelle) Jones of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters, Emma (Wayne) Lee of Topeka, Kansas and Leta Thompson of Huntsville, Texas; and a host of special children, nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Celeta Jones; father, Cornelius Jones Sr.; and brother, Cornelius Jones Jr.

Arette will be deeply missed but forever remembered through the memories of those lives she has touched.

A homegoing service for Arette C. Johnson will be 1 P.M., Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Free Pentecostal House of Prayer, Madisonville, Texas. Pastor Toni Green will officiate the service with eulogist, Elder James Davis. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time.
