Jerry Gene Smith

Jerry Gene Smith was born December 24, 1953 in Madison County, Texas to Lula Mae Smith and Winston Sandles. Jerry accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Marian Anderson School and later enrolled in Job Corps Program in San Marcos, Texas. Working as a skilled mechanic, he was employed by Luke Johnson Ford and Dave Ward Chevrolet. He later worked as a truck driver for Madole Rental. On November 8, 1976, he married Jeanette Scott.

Jerry was preceded in death by both of his parents and grandparents, Algie & L.D. Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife of forty-one years, Jeanette Smith ; children, Corey Scott (Stacey), Reginald Scott (Debra), Cedric Smith (Sheleetres), Eric Hopkins, Derrick Hopkins, Sheila Harris (Mike), Kaneshia Smith & Montera Washington; brothers, James Smith, Matthew Williams (Linda), Robert Sandles (Mary), Larry Sandles (Jean) & Mike Merchant; sisters, Savanah Spencer, La June Irving (Marian), Denise Woodard, Linda Lee (Robert), Sherrie Merchant Scott (Ronald), Sharon Merchant Fisher (Elmer); twenty-nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by aunt, Martha Square; sisters-in-law, Jeannie Ross, Patty Scott, Gladys Scott, Laura Henry; brothers-in-law, George Owens (Denise)& Christopher Scott (Chenell) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Homegoing services for Jerry will be held at 11 A.M., Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Bedias Baptist Church in Bedias, Texas. Interment will be in the Lone Star Cemetery in Bedias. A visitation will take place from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M., Friday, July 20th at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas.
