Glyde "Sue" Batson

Ms. Glyde Sue Batson passed away unexpectedly July 1, 2022, at the age of 75. Sue had a smile for everyone she met and the wonderful ability to focus on the brighter side of life.

Born on August 6, 1946, in Madisonville, Sue was a lifelong resident of the area. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1965 and worked at the Madisonville Care Center for forty-four years. In 2013, Sue was very proud to be publicly recognized for forty years of service. When asked by the news media what she enjoyed the most, she was quoted as saying, "It's just a great feeling when you’ve helped the residents and the people around you."

Leading craft projects, games, and other activities with patients at the Care Center kept Sue busy during her working years. Sue was also a long-time member of the Primitive Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling in the region to hymn-singing gatherings.

In retirement, she especially enjoyed watching Houston Astros baseball and the Antiques Roadshow on television, having lunch with her closest friends, and looking for interesting recipes. Sue collected cookbooks her entire adult life, accumulating quite a collection from different states.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Robert Batson and Luna Goodrum Bailey Batson; her sister, Edna Earl Bailey Young; her brother, James Wilton Bailey; and her nephew, Brian Wilton Bailey.

Sue is survived by a nephew, Mark W. Young of Houston, Texas and two nieces, Georgine Young Garbarini of Carbondale, Colorado, and Rebecca Bailey Zapalac of Orchard, Texas. Sue also leaves numerous cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and some very dear friends and neighbors.

We will miss Sue’s optimistic spirit.

A memorial service will be held at the Madisonville Funeral Home 1 P.M., Friday, July 8, 2022 with Rev. Cindy Clark officiating. A small graveside service will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers please consider contributing to Sue’s favorite non-profit, the Madisonville Cemetery Association.
