Edith Mae (Phipps) Johnson was born in Bryan, Texas on August 2, 1936 to Stanley Bartow & Leona Mae (Williams) Phipps. Edith spent more than 15 years serving the elderly community as a nursing assistant at the Rockdale Nursing Home. She was a member of the Caldwell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and Breast Cancer SUVIVOR! After retiring, she enjoyed hunting for antiques and following her grandchildren’s activities. She had a green thumb and could grow anything that she just stuck in the ground. She was known for having some of the most beautiful Christmas Cactus plants that bloomed several times a year. The beauty of her plants were only rivaled by her delicious chocolate pies which never lasted long.

Edith passed away July 11, 2021 in Madisonville, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam L. Johnson, both her parents; brother Curtis Phipps; sisters, Jessie Cassidy, Effie Karber, Dovie Patricia and Janie Sue Phipps. She is survived by her sons; Randy Adams (Cheryl) of Madisonville and Walt Adams (Lydia) of Baytown; grandchildren, Leeland Adams, Laura Adams, Jason Adams, Dean Adams and Christopher Adams; great-grandchildren; Nolan, Sophie, Kolby, Kaleb, Karter, Claire, Benjamin, Emery Hope, Everett and Mabri Mae; sisters Margie Corgey of Houston, Elizabeth Kasprzak of Alvin; brother Ronnie Phipps of Bryan and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. A special thank you to Patricia Cool and Melanie Ray who went above and beyond with kindness and compassion in caring for Edith.
