Doris Mae Mcgill

Doris Mae McGill, age 91, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 in Madisonville, Texas. She was born September 20, 1928 in Rosebud, Texas to Joe B. & Bertha Jewell (Locke) Akins. Doris grew up working in the post office. It eventually became her full time job. Doris subsequently became the Postmaster for a number of years and retired in 1992.

Doris lived most of her life in North Zulch and was a faithful member of North Zulch Free Will Baptist Church. As the wife of a deacon, Doris was continuously involved in various church activities and loved her church family.

Doris loved tatting and making lace the “old fashioned” way. She also enjoyed reading, cooking and attending her great-grandchildren’s softball games.

Doris was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband, James Lois and sisters, Annie, Alice, Daisy, Estelle & Dorothy Jean. Surviving relatives include daughters, Billie Norman of Friendswood, Bertha Lawson (Wilmer) of North Zulch & Anissa Dalzell (John) of Navasota, grandchildren, Mike Norman, David Lawson, Jason Norman, Wendy Drake, Chris Norman & Joseph Dalzell; great-grandchildren, Keeli Rogers, Ethan Norman, Cori Barrington, Braden Norman, Noah Norman, Makalah Norman, Alicia Norman, Haley Norman, Skyler Lawson & Zachary Norman, as well as, great, great-grandchild, Cora Rogers.

Funeral services for Doris are scheduled for 2 P.M., Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas. Rev. Warner Collier will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Willowhole Cemetery near North Zulch. The family will receive friends Friday, December 13th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
