Willie Derrel "Bub" Hayes

Funeral services for Will Hayes, age 79, of Conroe, will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas. John Green will officiate the service and Kenneth McDougald will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Willowhole Cemetery near North Zulch, Texas. The family will receive friends, Friday, July 6th from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Willie Derrel Hayes was born May 28, 1939 in Grimes County, Texas. His parents were Reuben and Mildred (Edmunds) Hayes. Affectionately known as “Bub,” he grew up in Iola and was a 1957 graduate of Iola High School. Will moved to Houston and began work in the steel industry from which he eventually retired as a Vice President of Sales. In 1960, he married his sweetheart, Patricia Waller, and shared fifty-eight wonderful years together. Not only did Will hold a full time position in the steel business, he also did reserve work as a deputy for Harris and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Departments.

Will was a mason for over fifty years and a member of Mims Baptist Church in Conroe. He loved deer hunting and working with his cattle. He also so loved coaching little league baseball where he mentored many athletes. Travel excursions were always a favorite of Will’s, especially those taken to Alaska and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Most important to Will were his six grandchildren. He cherished every moment he was able to spend with them, and each one was uniquely special.

Will passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018 in Conroe, Texas. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; step-mother, Bernice Hayes and brother, Edward Gene Hayes. Surviving family members include wife, Pat Hayes of Conroe, Texas; daughter, Angela Murphy (Marty) of Montgomery; son, Andy Hayes of The Woodlands; sister, Mintie Jean Parrot of Ft. Davis, sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Peggy & Donald Clute of Madisonville and grandchildren, Ashley and Justin Coker, Josiah Green, Lawson, Cullen , and Emmerson Hayes.
