John Frederick Magee

John Frederick Magee was born on December 22, 1941 in Ft. Worth, Texas and passed away on September 29, 2017 in Madisonville, Texas at the age of 75 years. His parents were Morton & Velma Louise (Pasche) Magee.

​John was an Eagle Scout at fourteen years of age. ​After graduating high school, he played football for the University of Houston. During that time, his team had the opportunity to play in the Orange Bowl. Following college, John worked as a science teacher for Houston I.S.D for thirty years. He also coached football, baseball and basketball, as well as, refereed basketball games. John was a charter member of the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and coached the very first High School All Star Baseball Team, coaching for the South Team. Their first game was held in the Houston Astrodome. John had a passion for helping his students. The respectful teaching relationship he shared with his students in high school continued to grow, turning into lifelong friendships.

Following his retirement from Houston I.S.D., John worked for a financial consulting business for another twenty years. He also enjoyed working as a substitute teacher for a number of schools in the area, including Madisonville C.I.S.D.

Singing was a love of John’s, and he had a beautiful voice. In his free time he liked going to nursing homes and different singings in the area to share his special gift. He always felt that his main goal in life was to be and ambassador for Christ. John ​was a longtime resident of Madisonville​ and was Baptist in faith.

John was preceded in death by both of his parents and sister, Sandra Kovacs. Surviving family members include wife of nearly three years, Blanche Magee of Madisonville; daughters, Lesley Ann​e​ Dybrack (John) of Ventura, CA and Kim Louise Magee of Houston; step-sons, Steven Lamb of Houston and Donald Lamb of Beaumont and step-daughter, Robyn Morell (Chuck) of McKinney. John is also survived by grandson, James Dybrack of Ventura, CA and step-grandchildren, Rhiannon & Braedon Morell of McKinney.

Memorial services for John will be held on October 13, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the Madisonville Christian Fellowship Church. Pastor Wade Phillips will officiate the service..

Services are under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas.
