Outer Burial Containers
Outer burial containers are containers in which a casket may be placed before being buried. These containers are used to help maintain the burial space by making it less likely to cave in as the dirt begins to settle around the casket.
In some counties and cemeteries, outer burial containers are required. In our local counties of Leon and Madison, there are no cemeteries at this time that require outer burial containers. It is up to the family to decide if they wish to use one.
Outer burial containers can be made of stainless steel, galvanized steel, concrete, polymer or wood. The containers most used in our area are shown below. For a list of all the outer burial containers that we have available, please contact one of our funeral homes.
